Microsoft lays down the Guantlet in Las Vegas!
Image via CrunchBaseMicrosoft CEO Steve Ballmer and President, Entertainment & Devices Division Robbie Bach made quite a splash today at the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. The announcement was actually three announcements rolled into one.
1. Dell will offer Live Search on the majority of its consumer and small business PCs in 23 countries around the world. Live Search will be the default search engine in the browser, and Dell will also include a Live Search-powered toolbar and Windows Live Essentials on new PCs.
2. Verizon Wireless has selected Microsoft to provide portal, local and Internet search as well as mobile advertising services to customers on its devices beginning the first half of 2009. How they beat Google to the punch as they were also in the hunt will be an excellent relelation.
3. Microsoft is releasing an update to the Live Search for Mobile client for Windows Mobile phones. The update will include several new features, including Query Autosuggest, Bird’s Eye View imagery, and LocateMe, which helps people automatically know their approximate location, even without GPS.I’m flabbergasted at the ability of Microsoft to come up with these weapons i the never ending conflict with Google. Dell and Verizon. It remains to be seen where these developments will lead the search market by our feeling it’s not a good day for Google.
All the Best
Paul
